The Estonian Waterworks Association (EVEL) is currently working on the strategy for the water management in Estonia, and the IWAMA project, which EVEL is a partner of, is important for this process.

The strategy for the water management sector that will ensure a sustainable approach to water resources will be prepared by November 2017 and the document will be available in English.

“The issues under the spotlight of IWAMA are key topics for us – energy saving, sludge management, capacity building,” comments Vahur Tarkmees, the Managing director of EVEL. These themes coordinate the efficient and sustainable development in the water sector. The Estonian Waterworks Association takes an active part in the IWAMA project and thoroughly evaluates the experience obtained during the site visits to the wastewater treatment plants in Lahti, Finland, and Grevesmühlen, Germany. Visits to these WWTPs have been organized in the framework of IWAMA workshops with an aim to witness the innovative plants of the region and have a chance to discuss challenges faced and solutions applied by the operators.

EVEL carefully monitors the project activities, participates in them and involves their members to follow IWAMA.
