The third webinar of the IWAMA project series was organized on 25 September 2017. The webinar focused on the management and maintenance of WWTPs.
This theme was presented through two presentations. First, Mika Kujala from Lahti Aqua Oy introduced the topic of wastewater treatment management with the data. The presentation discussed the perspectives of digitalization with increasing amount of data available. Data is crucial for wastewater treatment plants, and it is important to make it more detailed, precise and harmonized. A distinctive change is visible on the plants during the last years: for example, a general image of energy consumption on the plant has transformed into a specified picture of how exactly the energy is distributed and consumed in every part of this plant. This allows adjusting and improving the performance of plants.
During the second presentation by Hannu Poutiainen from the South-East Finland University of Applied Sciences “Possibilities to enhance the management of wastewaters” were discussed. There are several drivers that strengthen the need to optimize water treatment systems: nature protection, climate change mitigation, rising energy prices. This results is the visible trends on the plants: production and usage of biogas, energy optimization of processes, usage of smart data. Several examples of these trends were opened up in the presentation.
