The EUSBSR Annual Forum – the place for networking with Baltic Sea Region colleagues!

The 9th Annual Forum of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region was organized on 4–5 June in Tallinn, Estonia. The Forum was hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia together with the Baltic Development Forum in close cooperation with the European Commission and Ministry of Environment. IWAMA project representatives took the opportunity to reach out to more than 700 participants from the region with the information on project activities and achievements.

The focus of the Forum this year was on the vision of the region after 2020. The discussions rotated around the EU Cohesion Policy, perspectives of digital development and future activities for cleaning up the Baltic Sea. Much attention was given to the new study prepared for the Forum analysing and providing guidance on how to improve the policies of the Baltic Sea Region: EUSBSR after 2020: governance remastered.

The IWAMA project fitted well with the attention brought to the transnational value of the projects implemented in the region under the umbrella of the EUSBSR. Particularly, IWAMA was presented during the Networking village as a Flagship project of the Priority Area “Nutri”.

Throughout the plenary sessions and seminars speakers and participants identified and discussed fields that should be improved both in the context of the environment and of the practical implementation of the planned actions. How to make the Baltic Sea an effectively managed area – this question has been relevant for BSR for many years, and while it is not anywhere near to be taken off the agenda, accumulated good practices and solutions from manifold projects demonstrate gradual improvement of the sea state.
